Westside Cowboy make their US television debut on The Tonight Show
The Manchester band played "Pin Up Boys" from debut album It Goes On during the final stretch of their North American tour
Westside Cowboy appeared on American television for the first time Thursday night, performing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The Manchester group played "Pin Up Boys," a track from their debut album It Goes On.
The performance leaned on the vocal interplay between Reuben Haycocks and Aoife Anson O'Connell, one of the defining features of the band's sound. Haycocks broke a string partway through but kept going without visibly breaking stride, and O'Connell delivered the song's closing vocal showcase to an enthusiastic studio audience.
The 30 Rock booking came near the end of a North American tour. The band had been building attention for a couple of years before the album arrived, and It Goes On confirmed their knack for folding guitars, melody and restless, combustible energy into immediately likable songs.
Westside Cowboy are signed to Island Records, part of Universal Music Group, a conglomerate with corporate ties to NBC, the network that airs the Tonight Show. That connection likely smoothed the path to the slot. Even so, televised debuts of this kind have become scarcer. With The Late Show off the air and music journalism in a diminished state, rising bands have fewer high-profile platforms to reach new listeners than they did a decade ago.
Video of the performance is available through the show's official channels.
