Treaty Oak Revival ask fans to stop throwing chairs at their shows

The Texas band posted a video after reports of hard objects being hurled at crowds, including a concertgoer hospitalized after a Charlotte gig

Treaty Oak Revival posted a video on Thursday (Sept. 24) asking audiences to stop launching lawn chairs and other hard objects during their concerts. The Texas group, whose country rock has been labeled "Southwest emo" by some, said they had watched fan-shot footage from recent shows and were alarmed by it.

Frontman Sam Canty addressed the habit directly, noting that it tends to happen during "Boomtown." "It's hurting people and we don't fucking condone it," he said, adding that beer showers, crowd surfing and general chaos are fine by the band — hard objects flying into the crowd or at the stage are not.

"Boomtown" is the second track on the band's 2021 debut album No Vacancy and has become a cue for the throwing. One concertgoer was reportedly hospitalized after the band's Sept. 19 show in Charlotte.

Chairs aren't the only projectiles. Trash cans and beer cans have also been thrown at Treaty Oak Revival gigs, and Canty himself was hit in the face by a can last September. The band played the Rock The Country Festival earlier this year.

Clips filmed by attendees at recent dates, including one at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia, show the practice repeating from show to show. Thursday's video marks the band's first public statement on the matter.
