Sombr Brings Lindsey Buckingham Onstage In LA, Redoes "Homewrecker" With Nickel Creek

Sombr turned Saturday night at LA's Kia Forum into a guest-heavy affair, bringing out former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham for a run through the Rumours staple "Go Your Own Way." Earlier in the set, he had already welcomed Jesse Rutherford of the Neighbourhood to sing "Sweater Weather."

The pairing with Buckingham had been building for months. Back in April, the veteran guitarist singled out the 20-year-old in a video about staying curious as a listener, calling him extremely talented. In August, Buckingham handed Sombr the Songwriter Of The Year award at Variety's Power Of Young Hollywood event, praising his creative vision and recalling that "Back To Friends" grabbed him the first time he heard it early last year.

Speaking to press around that ceremony, Buckingham said the two had been in contact and that Sombr had told him about the influence his work had on his songwriting. He described the current crop of new music as strong, with "Sombr being at the top of the heap."

Hours before the Forum show, Sombr released an alternate take on his single "Homewrecker," recorded live at the storied Sound City studio in Los Angeles and titled "Homewrecker (Reimagined Live From Sound City)." The session features bluegrass-pop trio Nickel Creek — Chris Thile, Sara Watkins and Sean Watkins — plus keyboardist Benny Bock, who played on recent Phoebe Bridgers and Beabadoobee albums, and bassist Sebastian Steinberg of Soul Coughing, Fiona Apple and Watkins Family Hour fame.

Footage of the Buckingham cameo made the rounds online shortly after the show, alongside clips of the guitarist's earlier comments about the young artist.
