Pressure Set share "Panic Show" featuring Riverboat Gamblers' Mike Wiebe
The punk supergroup's debut album arrives October 2nd via Dr. Strange Records, with a Fest appearance also on the books.
Pressure Set have released "Panic Show," a new single and video featuring Mike Wiebe of Riverboat Gamblers and Drakulas. The track is streaming now and comes from the band's debut full-length, due October 2nd through Dr. Strange Records.
The supergroup is made up of members of Bear Away, The Bollweevils, The Methadones, Sludgeworth and Violets. The album was tracked in studios scattered around the globe, and the band says the distance did not get in the way of the chemistry, with the record built around short, sharp bursts of high-energy punk rock.
Stated influences run from Gang of Four, Wipers, Hot Snakes and MC5 to nods toward Descendents, Naked Raygun, Samiam, Meat Wave and Idles. Vocalist Daryl Wilson called the collaboration a highlight, noting that he and Wiebe each wrote a complete set of lyrics for the same music before realizing they had landed on the same theme. "A chance to sing with Mike, one of the best frontmen in music," Wilson said.
Lyrically, Wilson approaches the song from the point of view of someone stuck in a permanent state of panic, a cycle he argues solves nothing and only breeds more panic. He ties that to a society he describes as medicated and steadily fed on dread, with little improvement to show for it.
Pressure Set are also scheduled to play Florida's The Fest on August 24th.
