My Chemical Romance Headed For First UK No.1 With 'The Black Parade' Reissue
The album's 20th-anniversary edition leads the Official Charts Company midweek update, a milestone the band has never reached before.
My Chemical Romance are on track for the first UK No.1 album of their career. The Official Charts Company's midweek update places the 20th-anniversary reissue of 'The Black Parade' at the top of the pile, meaning the band could finally claim a chart crown that has eluded them for two decades.
The expanded edition arrived last Friday, exactly 20 years after the record first landed. Back in 2006, the album stalled at No.2, blocked by Robbie Williams' 'Rudebox'. It has since logged 73 weeks on the UK chart.
Two other albums have given the band Top 10 placings. 'Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge' reached No.9 in 2004, while 'Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys' climbed to No.2 as recently as July this year, lifted by its own reissue.
On the live front, the group wrapped the '"Long Live" The Black Parade' tour over the weekend. Two further dates remain, set for October 30 and 31 in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl, with The Used and Thrice supporting.
The band also left a note for fans outside the Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles, reading, "We have the world's best fans. Thank You. See you soon". The message has fuelled speculation about future announcements, though nothing further has been confirmed.
