Less Than Jake Share New Single and Video for "Another Hostage Situation"

Less Than Jake have put out "Another Hostage Situation", a new single backed by a music video. The song is a B-side pulled from Uncharted, the ska-punk band's 2024 EP, giving the release a second life ahead of a busy touring year.

The single lands as the group readies a run of live dates across 2026, taking in the United States, Australia and New Zealand. The schedule includes an appearance at Riot Fest along with shows in Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland, before the band heads back to the US for December dates.

Guitarist and vocalist Chris DeMakes said the lyrics were written about his son and daughter, who were 7 and 6 years old at the time. The inspiration came from mornings at home before the school run, a routine he described as sometimes smooth and sometimes a full-blown thunderstorm.

"The 'hostage' was me," DeMakes said of the song's title, adding that the words are as tongue in cheek as possible and that his kids are amazing.

Long established as one of the most durable acts in American ska-punk and known for the energy of their live shows, Less Than Jake continue to keep a steady presence on stages and festival bills. The new single pushes Uncharted back into focus just as the band's international dates get underway.
