Hi-Standard Announce New EP "Screaming Newborn Baby" for October 23
The Japanese melodic punk trio returns through Fat Wreck Chords, with streaming release and several special vinyl variants now up for pre-order.
Hi-Standard have new music on the way. The Japanese band confirmed a new EP titled Screaming Newborn Baby, due October 23 through Fat Wreck Chords, the label that has backed the group since the 1990s.
The record will land on streaming platforms and arrive in physical form as well, with multiple vinyl variants opened for pre-order. One of them is a special edition tied to Tower Records, the Japanese retail chain.
The announcement came alongside a note from Fat Mike, of NOFX and head of Fat Wreck Chords, who recalled catching the band for the first time at a small Tokyo club in the early 1990s and signing them shortly after. Three decades later, he pointed out, the group is selling out baseball stadiums across Japan.
"They are one of the best bands ever to be on Fat," Fat Mike said of the trio.
Hi-Standard remain one of the most influential names in Japanese melodic punk, a group that helped connect the country's scene to the wider Fat Wreck Chords circuit in North America. Screaming Newborn Baby keeps that partnership going nearly 30 years on.
