fish narc shares "Emma" ahead of new album "Uncle"

Ben Funkhouser, once a producer in the ThraxxHouse and GothBoiClique orbit, delivers a plainspoken love song with a self-directed video.

fish narc has released "Emma," the latest single from "Uncle," the album arriving later this week. The track is a bouncy, wide-eyed love song written for Emma Hendry, who also plays in Krimewatch and Phantasia. Ben Funkhouser directed the accompanying video himself.

Funkhouser first made his name as a pioneering producer in emo-rap, working within the ThraxxHouse and GothBoiClique collectives and collaborating with artists including Wicca Phase Springs Eternal and the late Lil Peep. In recent years he relocated from Seattle to Olympia and moved toward DIY indie rock, issuing his solo material through K Records.

"Uncle" is the project's deepest excursion yet into '90s fuzz-and-jangle territory. fish narc now operates as a full band, and the record was tracked with Alex Farrar, the producer behind releases by Wednesday and MJ Lenderman.

"Emma" follows earlier singles "Much Less Me" and "Big Dumb World." With the album due within days, the new song underlines the brighter, guitar-driven direction Funkhouser has been chasing since his shift away from production work.
