Fans Are Playing Magic: The Gathering In The Turnstile Pit
A TikTok from the band's Toronto show captured concertgoers dealing cards during "Magic Man," a track off last year's Never Enough
Turnstile shows are known for chaos, but the band's Saturday (Sept. 12) stop in Toronto produced something stranger than usual: a group of fans playing Magic: The Gathering on the floor, mid-set. The scene was captured in a TikTok that quickly spread among fans.
The timing made it better. The card game broke out during "Magic Man," a song from Never Enough, the album the band released last year. Turnstile put out a reimagined, guest-heavy version of the record last month, and the accompanying tour launched last week.
The band already has a documented connection to the game. Radio 1 host Jack Saunders, who regularly makes Magic content online, opened packs with Turnstile earlier this year.
Musicians have embraced MTG in a big way. Post Malone paid $2 million for the one-of-a-kind The One Ring card in 2023, the same year Foxing released a playable deck of their own. DIIV's Zachary Cole Smith and Storefront Church's Lukas Frank launched the YouTube series Thoughtseize Interviews, featuring guests including Dijon. Denzel Curry, Flume and Rivers Cuomo are fans too, and Charli XCX recently told Saunders that the "Magic" in "Magic Metal Montana" nods to A. G.'s interest in the game. Drake has been playing as well.
Turnstile's crowd isn't even the first hardcore-adjacent pit to double as a card table: games have also been documented at Machine Girl shows.
