Haywire's surprise Times Square set shut down by NYPD after a song and a half
The Boston hardcore band announced the pop-up on Instagram with just one hour's notice and drew hundreds of fans before police pulled the plug.
Haywire turned Times Square into a hardcore pit for a few minutes last night. The Boston band teased the pop-up show on Instagram with only an hour of lead time, posting a location and coordinates pointing fans to the exact spot in the middle of New York City.
The short notice did little to slow turnout. Within roughly 30 minutes, hundreds of people had gathered to catch the set. It did not last long: after a song and a half, the NYPD ended the performance and confiscated the band's equipment.
Before the shutdown, Haywire managed to get through "FLEX YOUR HEAD," a track from their recent album I Don't Wanna Say Goodbye, plus a snippet of "Haywire."
The stunt comes days after the band laid out its biggest plans yet. Last week, Haywire announced a 2027 headline tour that will take them across North America, the U.K. and Europe, packing 80 shows into a four-month stretch.
