Counterpunch are back. The Chicago outfit have released "Dig", their first new single since the 2022 album Rewire. The track leans on the band's melodic hardcore and skate punk foundations while pushing toward something more urgent, built as a burst of emotional release.

Lyrically, the song takes aim at troubling realities that continue to be overlooked, both inside the United States and abroad. The band describes "Dig" as a blistering, fast-paced track that lands like a raw emotional outburst, written in response to issues and actions they feel go unexamined at home and around the globe.

The single was self-produced by Counterpunch and features Sean Sellers, known for his work with Good Riddance and Pulley, on drums. Recording and engineering took place at Black in Bluhm in Denver with Kyle Tilev and at Maple Studios in Santa Ana with Cameron Webb.

The release arrives just ahead of a run of October shows. The stretch opened on October 17th at East Fax Tap in Denver, after which the band join Authority Zero for dates running from Albuquerque to Brooklyn. The itinerary includes a hometown appearance at Reggie's in Chicago on October 24th.
