YAO have released 'FOR OKINAWA', the second track from the project that brings together members of ONE OK ROCK and Paledusk with rappers Awich and Chico Carlito. The song is out now.
The track moves between hard rock balladry and trap-tinged rap, leaning on what each contributor does best rather than settling into a single lane. It continues the group's stated approach of ignoring genre borders, an idea already present on their debut.
The subject matter is Okinawa itself, the home region of Awich and Chico Carlito. Beyond a simple tribute, 'FOR OKINAWA' works as a celebration of local history and a reminder of the scars left by the region's past, which the artists deliberately keep in view.
'FOR OKINAWA' follows '777', the first YAO single and the introduction to a collaboration linking two of contemporary Japanese rock's most visible acts with two central voices in the country's rap scene. The project currently has two songs to its name, with no word on a longer release.
