Virga share new songs "Perception Management" and "Impassable Monolith II"

Virga, a trio out of Lawrence, Kansas, has released two new songs: "Perception Management" and "Impassable Monolith II." The tracks arrive as the band finishes its stint opening the first leg of the ongoing North American tour headlined by Chat Pile and Soul Glo.

Only two dates remain on that run for Virga, in Houston and Dallas. After those shows, Shallowater takes over the opening slot for the rest of the tour.

The band has been active since 2022 and has three EPs to its name, the most recent being this year's The Perfect Freedom Of Single Necessity. Its sound leans on a sprawling, guttural churn, moving between stretches of windswept prettiness and far gnarlier riffs and howls. The seven-minute "Perception Management" is the more expansive of the two new songs.

On Bandcamp, Virga files its music under the self-coined tag "prairie goth," a label that gestures at the mix of heaviness, open-space atmosphere and raw vulnerability running through the recordings. Both new tracks are out now.
