The Slow Death Share "You're Not Coming Back" From Upcoming Yesterday's Numbers
The Minneapolis band's sixth full-length arrives November 20th on Anxious & Angry, and the new single revives a song Jesse Thorson wrote years ago in another band.
The Slow Death have released "You're Not Coming Back," the second single from their upcoming sixth full-length, Yesterday's Numbers. The Minneapolis band's new record is due November 20th via Anxious & Angry.
The track has a longer history than the album itself. Vocalist Jesse Thorson wrote it years ago while playing in a different band, a project that recorded basic tracks and some vocals before quietly winding down. There was no formal breakup, he says, just a pause that stretched out until it became permanent, leaving the song unfinished.
Thorson never let go of it, particularly the bridge, built around ringing chords and female vocals. That section stuck with him long enough to become the reason he assembled the new record in the first place, giving the old material a proper finished version at last.
By his own accounting, hearing that bridge completed took eight people, two years of work and thousands of dollars. His verdict on the whole effort: "Totally worth it."
With "You're Not Coming Back" now out, Yesterday's Numbers has two singles circulating ahead of the album's late November release.
