The Offspring release new studio cover of Ramones' "I Wanna Be Sedated"

The Offspring have put out a new single: a fresh recording of "I Wanna Be Sedated," one of the most instantly recognizable songs in the Ramones catalog. The track is available now across streaming platforms.

This is not the band's first pass at the song. Back in 2003, the California group contributed a version to "We're A Happy Family: A Tribute To Ramones," the compilation that gathered a range of artists around the New York quartet's material. The newly released take, however, is a brand new studio recording rather than a reissue of that older cut.

The band pointed to the road as the reason behind it. "We've been playing this live on tour, so we thought we'd record a proper studio version for you," they said when announcing the release, confirming that the song had already worked its way into their current setlist.

The move underlines a long-standing connection. The Ramones remain a foundational reference point for the wave of California punk that broke through in the 1990s, and The Offspring were among the acts that carried that sound to a mass audience during the decade. Revisiting the track more than twenty years after their first attempt reads as an updated tribute rather than a simple repeat.
