The Drowns release fourth album "Harsh Reality" via Pirates Press Records

Recorded at The Blasting Room by Bill Stevenson, the 13-track political punk record features Zach Blair and Matt Hensley.

Seattle punk band The Drowns have released their fourth studio album, "Harsh Reality", out now through Pirates Press Records. The record collects 13 new songs and leans hard into political songwriting, tightening the band's melodic instincts without leaving punk rock behind.

The album was tracked at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado, with Bill Stevenson of Descendents and Black Flag behind the board, and mixed by Jason Livermore. Guest appearances come from Zach Blair of Rise Against and Matt Hensley of Flogging Molly.

Lead single "Relentless" could easily be read as a nod to the band's near-constant touring schedule, but the lyrics go somewhere else: the crushing weight of capitalism on the working poor. The song digs into the mental health toll of grinding through every day with no break, only to fall further behind.

According to the album's presentation, "Harsh Reality" carries plenty of venom, in the tradition of political punk records by The Clash or Stiff Little Fingers, but keeps people ahead of polemic, reaching for compassion at a moment when it feels scarce. It is framed as a life-affirming album built for hard times.

The Drowns have built a following record by record and show by show across the global punk scene, and the new album is presented as the group at the peak of its powers. "Harsh Reality" is available now on digital platforms and in physical formats through Pirates Press Records.
