The Clash to reissue 1982 promo sampler The World According to the Clash
The DJ-only compilation returns remastered on CD and LP through Concord Music Group on November 12, with new artwork and the original tracklist
The Clash are reissuing The World According to the Clash, a sampler originally pressed in 1982 for promotional use only. The record was never sold in stores at the time: it existed to introduce the band to radio DJs and retailers, pulling songs from across their catalog with a focus on their two most recent albums, Sandinista! and Combat Rock.
The reissue arrives November 12 on CD and LP. The audio has been remastered and the sleeve is new, but the tracklist is unchanged from the original promo version.
The more notable detail may be the label. According to distributor Rough Trade, this marks the first time Concord Music Group has issued a Clash title. The band's recordings have historically lived with CBS, Epic and Columbia.
Concord is one of the largest music and publishing companies in the business and has acquired entire artist catalogs in the past, including The Offspring's. The shift raises the question of whether the company now controls the rights to The Clash's music, something that has not been confirmed publicly.
