Showing Teeth deliver debut EP 'A Fate Worse Than Loneliness'

Showing Teeth have released their debut EP, 'A Fate Worse Than Loneliness', a seven-track record arriving on a wave of anticipation. With only two singles to their name beforehand, the project had already landed opening slots at Bring Me The Horizon's 'Count Your Blessings' anniversary shows.

At the centre of the project is vocalist Addison, who broke through in 2023 with viral videos of herself singing in her car. Across the EP she moves between clean singing and screams that shift in style and intensity. For the recording she worked with multi-instrumentalist Zach Munowitz, Periphery drummer Matt Halpern and producer Dan Book.

The songs cover a wide stretch of modern heavy music. Opener 'Bad Exchanges' stacks breakdown after breakdown over buzzsaw guitar work, while previously released cuts 'Rip' and 'Labyrinth' lean respectively on thudding tones with pig squeals and on a djent-leaning approach with high, processed vocals. 'Make It Out' brings groove riffs, electronic verses and a large chorus, and 'Shallow Grave' stands out with lyrics rooted in self-reflection.

Closer 'Paradigm' takes a different route, building from piano before a shifting drum loop pushes it toward arena-scale balladry. The EP's title and lyrical themes tie into the so-called loneliness epidemic, an idea echoed by its cover image of a yawning kitten with sharp teeth.
