Rise Against and Alkaline Trio drop split single covering each other's songs
The release marks decades of friendship between the two Chicago punk bands, who are about to launch a joint US tour running through October.
Rise Against and Alkaline Trio have released a split single built around covers of each other's material. Rise Against took on Alkaline Trio's 'Private Eye', while Alkaline Trio recorded their own version of 'Re-Education (Through Labor)'.
The pairing arrives just ahead of an extensive US tour the two Chicago bands will share, and both camps framed the record as a celebration of a friendship that stretches back to their earliest days playing the Fireside Bowl.
Matt Skiba said swapping covers with a band Alkaline Trio has known since both groups formed feels like an honour, adding that reconnecting through the tour and the single recalls how things felt at the start. Tim McIlrath noted that the connection between the two bands predates the bands themselves, and that Rise Against enjoyed digging into 'Private Eye'.
The run begins on 22 September in Dallas and continues through Austin, Clearwater, St. Augustine, Raleigh and New York before October dates in Boston, Asbury Park, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Waukee, Council Bluffs and Milwaukee. A 12 October stop at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison is among the highlights.
From there the tour heads west to Phoenix, Albuquerque, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Seattle and San Francisco, wrapping up on 23 October at Great Park Live in Irvine, California. No shows outside the United States have been announced.
