Patrick Miranda opens up about Movements' new album, Happier Now
Speaking to Kerrang!, the frontman says writing the record turned into an honest audit of his own emotional state.
Movements frontman Patrick Miranda has spoken to Kerrang! about Happier Now, the band's new album, and the process of self-examination that shaped its songs.
The singer says music has always given him a way to look inward and confront bigger questions. As work on the record began, he found himself weighing the version of his well-being he had been presenting publicly against how he actually felt. "am I as happy as I've been telling people I am?", he recalled asking himself.
That line of questioning ended up setting the tone for the album, which the publication describes as one of the year's strongest post-hardcore releases. Miranda says the process also left him with a fresh perspective on where he stands.
Movements have spent the past decade building a following in emotionally direct post-hardcore, with lyrics that regularly deal with mental health and personal relationships. Happier Now continues in that vein, this time starting from a doubt the vocalist raised before the first songs were finished.
