Olivia Rodrigo's Daisy Chain Fields raises $20 million in its first edition

The inaugural Daisy Chain Fields, the women-led festival created by Olivia Rodrigo, took place at Great Park in Irvine, California, and raised $10 million for nonprofits working on women's rights. Melinda French Gates is matching that figure with a $10 million donation through her organization Pivotal, bringing the total to $20 million.

The bill was split between two stages with no overlapping sets. The Marigold Stage hosted Quiet Light, Rachel Chinouriri, Bikini Kill, Garbage, the Breeders and Die Spitz. The Dandelion Stage featured Eli, Santigold, Devon Again, Mitski, Doechii, Chappell Roan and the closing Olivia Rodrigo & Special Guests set. Devon Again was added after KATSEYE were pulled from the lineup when a member sprained her ankle; three of the group's members still appeared on site to introduce the nonprofit Baby2Baby.

Ten nonprofit partners had booths in the festival's Philanthropy Village, among them Planned Parenthood and the National Women's Law Center. A walkway called "Daisy Lane" was lined with messages marking milestones for women over the past 130 years. The area was under an extreme heat warning during the event.

Kathleen Hanna delivered a pointed political speech during Bikini Kill's set before thanking Rodrigo for putting the festival together. For "Rebel Girl," the band brought out Irvine riot grrrl act Emily's Sassy Lime. Mitski told the crowd Rodrigo called her personally with the invitation and suggested the event become an annual affair.

Rodrigo played roughly half of her new album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love and gave "serena joy" its live debut. Her guests were Sarah McLachlan, Stevie Nicks and, as an unannounced addition, Alanis Morissette, who filled in for Karen O. Introducing McLachlan, a Lilith Fair co-founder, Rodrigo said that without Lilith Fair there would be no Daisy Chain.
