Ogbert The Nerd return with new single "Stapler"

Ogbert The Nerd have released "Stapler," the band's first new song since their surprise 2024 album What You Want.

The track leans on the elements that made the group a name in guitar-driven emo: melodramatic screaming, noodling guitar lines and an anxious breakdown where the percussion pulls back and lets the song simmer before building again. Lines like "The light we chased is gone" set the trapped, claustrophobic tone of the lyrics, and the song closes on a short, well-placed "OOH."

The band, who jokingly bill themselves as the only emo act from New Jersey, built an audience in the American DIY emo circuit, a scene where unannounced releases like What You Want have become common practice. That record arrived with no advance rollout and widened the group's reach beyond the underground.

So far, Ogbert The Nerd have not said whether "Stapler" is part of a larger project such as an EP or album, and no tour dates have been tied to the release. The single is streaming now.
