Niis Sign With Rise Records and Announce New EP 'Play Niis'
The six-track release arrives October 23, led by new single 'Earthquakes', as the band prepares for a lengthy US run this fall.
Niis have joined the Rise Records roster, and the band marked the move by revealing a new EP titled 'Play Niis'. The record is due on October 23, with lead track 'Earthquakes' available now.
The EP collects six songs: 'Bad Aim', 'Big Fish Baby', 'Earthquakes', 'Take Your Mess', 'No Flowers' and 'Westside'. Vocalist Mimi Doe framed the record around an early-2000s mall-era snapshot, complete with a flip phone, a record store letdown and 'Buffy' playing on the TV at home, positioning the release as a deliberate throwback that still reads as modern.
Discussing the single, Doe said 'Earthquakes' deals with growing through pain and heartbreak, and the scars left behind by lost love. She also praised the band's new label home, calling the partnership a dream and crediting Rise with building an environment where the group can experiment.
The release lands as Niis prepare to tour heavily. In October they head out across North America with Movements, Balance & Composure and Midrift, starting in Seattle and hitting Portland, San Jose, Salt Lake City, Denver, Omaha, Cleveland, Chicago, Royal Oak, Pittsburgh, New York, Philadelphia and Boston.
The run continues through late October in Silver Spring, Richmond and Norfolk before moving into November dates in Raleigh, St. Petersburg, Orlando, Atlanta, San Antonio, Dallas and Mesa. The trek wraps on November 14 at Observatory OC in Santa Ana.
