My Chemical Romance fans are finding rare Frank Iero doodles in 'The Black Parade'
The guitarist confirmed he drew on signed deluxe inserts of the 20th anniversary reissue, saying 13 one-of-one variants are out in the wild
Fans who bought the signed deluxe edition of My Chemical Romance's 20th anniversary reissue of The Black Parade are discovering hand-drawn surprises inside: original doodles by guitarist Frank Iero, each one a single copy.
The story surfaced on Reddit, where a buyer posted a photo of his signed insert. James Jean's print titled The Patient, included with the deluxe package, had been altered by hand to resemble the title character from the 1994 film The Crow. A second modified insert appeared on the forum days later, this one styled after Hannibal Lecter. Iero has not confirmed whether that drawing is his.
He did claim the first one. In an Instagram post, the guitarist called the "crow variant" his loving way of collaborating with Jean, who created the album's original cover art. Iero added that there are 13 variants in total, all different and all one of one. "Hoping to see them pop up from time to time," he wrote.
In follow-up Instagram stories, Iero explained his habit of sketching while signing items, meaning more variations should turn up over time, some repeating but most not.
The reissue marks two decades since the 2006 album, which has anchored the band's sprawling touring run over the past two years. The signed deluxe run sold through the band's online store is already sold out, though other editions of the reissue remain available.
