Mike Watt announces album with Thresher and new supergroup Casa Sueño

Minutemen cofounder Mike Watt has announced Beekeeper, a collaborative album with Thresher, an experimental noise rock band from Ontario. The record lands September 10 through OwnSound Recordings and is available for pre-order now. Two songs are already out: "Sip Of The Sweetness" and "The Bee Dance."

The album is only one of several projects keeping the bassist busy. In June, Mike Baggetta unveiled Casa Sueño, a supergroup featuring Watt alongside John Herndon of Tortoise. A lead single is on the way, and the trio has a tour starting later this month. Watt and Baggetta previously played together in mssv.

The Casa Sueño run opens September 17 in San Pedro, California, and continues through Costa Mesa, San Diego, Pioneertown, Bakersfield, Fresno and Pacifica, with a stop in Tijuana, Mexico. From there the band works its way up the West Coast, hitting Salem, Olympia, Bellingham, Seattle and Portland, plus two nights in Vancouver, British Columbia. The tour wraps October 10 at Zebulon in Los Angeles.

Watt has kept a heavy pace all year. He and J Mascis released a split earlier in 2025 on which each covered the other's band. In July, his other supergroup, Big Circle, put out a self-titled EP, and a couple of months before that he looked back on the Minutemen in a New York Times profile.
