James Hetfield says Turnstile turned down an offer to tour with Metallica
On his SiriusXM show Riff Life, the frontman said the hardcore band passed because they were already doing fine on their own
James Hetfield revealed that Metallica tried to bring Turnstile on the road and got turned down. The frontman discussed it on his SiriusXM program Riff Life, a week after the hardcore band drew 60,000 people to Washington, DC's National Mall.
According to Hetfield, the offer was made and the answer was simple: Turnstile were already doing well without the boost. Even so, he praised the group at length and urged listeners to catch them in person, saying their records only tell part of the story and that the live show is where it clicks.
Hetfield added that the two camps have spent some time together, describing the Turnstile members as laid-back and fun to be around. He also mentioned the addition of guitarist Meg Mills to the lineup. The admiration isn't new: a couple of years ago, Hetfield was spotted watching Turnstile from the side of the stage.
Metallica have kept hardcore acts close to their touring operation regardless. Earlier this year, Knocked Loose opened the European leg of the M72 World Tour. Turnstile, meanwhile, continue to ride the momentum from the National Mall show, one of the most discussed moments in the scene in recent weeks.
