Hayley Williams unleashes a pile of live debuts at tour opener in West Palm Beach

Hayley Williams launched "The Hayley Williams Show" on Thursday night at the iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, with Magdalena Bay and Rico Nasty opening. The run, announced back in May, was billed as drawing from all three of the Paramore singer's solo albums, plus surprises.

The surprises turned out to be a long list of live debuts. Because of the pandemic, Williams never toured behind Petals For Armor (2020) or Flowers For Vases / Descansos (2021), and much of that material finally reached a stage. "Just A Lover," "Over Yet," "Creepin'," "My Friend" and "Cinnamon" were played for the first time ever, while "Dead Horse" and "Pure Love" got their first performances in front of an audience. "Crystal Clear," previously performed with Paramore, made its solo debut.

Williams also worked in covers. She played Nina Simone's "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and folded a piece of Portishead's "Wandering Star" into "Simmer," a song she hadn't performed on her own since 2020.

Ahead of the tour, fans had speculated that the setlist might revisit older guest spots, particularly after venues in Los Angeles and New York promoted the dates using lyrics from B.o.B.'s "Airplanes" and Zedd's "Stay The Night." Neither showed up on opening night, and no Paramore songs were played either. The show closed with an encore of "Mirtazapine," "Brotherly Hate" and "Parachute," following a reprise of "Just A Lover."

It's Williams' second solo outing of the year, after a run built around Ego Death At The Bachelorette Party, released last year.
