Gerard Way hints on stage that MCR5 could finally happen next year
The My Chemical Romance frontman suggested during a Hollywood Bowl show that the band may make its long-awaited fifth album in 2027.
My Chemical Romance may finally be moving on the most anticipated record in the scene. During a performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, Gerard Way suggested to the crowd that the band could make the long-rumoured MCR5 next year.
The frontman's comment came from the stage, in front of the audience, and was enough to reignite speculation that has followed the group since its return. A fifth studio album has been a constant topic among fans for years: the band hasn't released a new record since Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys, which arrived in 2010.
The show is part of the Long Live The Black Parade run, which brings the band back to the material tied to its most celebrated album. That turned the Hollywood Bowl night into an extra piece of news for anyone tracking the group's every move — and the timing, on Halloween, landed as a treat for the fanbase.
So far, My Chemical Romance has not officially confirmed any recording schedule, album title or release date. Way's onstage remark is, for now, the clearest sign yet that new material could be on the way. Fans will have to wait for a formal announcement to know whether MCR5 stops being a rumour and becomes an actual record.
