GDP announces Cross Off Matthew, his first album in 14 years on Run For Cover

GDP, the project of New Jersey artist Matthew Miller, has announced Cross Off Matthew, his first proper album in 14 years. It arrives October 23 on Run For Cover, the punk/emo/indie label that housed his early releases in the late 2000s and early 2010s, back when the imprint was helping push the emo revival forward.

GDP carved out an unusual lane on that roster with skate-rap, a sound that sat sideways next to the label's guitar bands. Miller eventually stepped back from music to focus on film and photography, publishing zines and books and shooting and directing video work under the alias George Douglas Peterson, including documentation of medical missions in vulnerable parts of the world.

He never fully left music, just the microphone. Miller played drums in the hardcore band Ankle Monitor and started an electronic grindcore solo project called Orange Crystal. His return to rapping came last year with ENDOCRINE, a seven-song collaboration with Fatboi Sharif.

Lead single "Island In The Sky" packs a blunt, agile flow into under two minutes, set against a volatile noise-rock backdrop rather than a conventional beat. On Bandcamp, GDP describes the track as an ode to the Holland Tunnel, Route 280 and riding your skateboard as fast as it will go. He directed the accompanying video himself.

Cross Off Matthew runs 12 tracks, including "Another Country," "Seroquel," "Mezzanine," "Holstein," "Rock For Light" and "Doom Loop." Pre-orders are open now.
