Fall Out Boy build a fictional mall online and keep fans guessing
The band posted four solo videos of its members before unveiling Twilight Town Mall, a world being revealed piece by piece on its official website
Fall Out Boy have kicked off a mystery campaign that keeps expanding by the day. The first clue arrived last week, when the band shared four separate videos, one for each member: Patrick Stump sorting records, Joe Trohman testing cameras, Andy Hurley playing a grabber machine and Pete Wentz measuring his coffin.
Next came the logo for Twilight Town Mall, a nostalgic fictional shopping centre that has become the core of the rollout. Over the past few days, more of that world has appeared on the band's website, including security footage showing the four musicians wandering through what looks like a completely deserted mall.
Only one of the six promised stores is live so far: the Twilight Dream Center, where visitors can browse a $799 mattress and a dream guard under the tagline "A better tomorrow begins tonight". There is also a food court stocked with items that nod to the band's catalogue, including Folie Á Dough Pizza, What A Catch Fish Sandwiches and The Last Of The Real Buns.
The site itself promises a gradual reveal, telling visitors that the more they come back, the more they will discover. Nothing has been confirmed about what the campaign is actually building toward, but the group has clearly constructed an entire universe around it.
The rollout lands as Fall Out Boy mark 25 years as a band, an anniversary also being celebrated with a special edition magazine, a merch collection and a CD tribute album featuring covers by contemporaries, friends and acts the quartet inspired.
