Ex-Turnstile guitarist ordered to undergo competency evaluation
Brady Ebert must be evaluated before standing trial for attempted murder, after his own attorney raised concerns in court
Former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert has been ordered to undergo a competency evaluation before he can stand trial on an attempted murder charge. The ruling came during a hearing in Montgomery County Circuit Court.
The request came from Ebert's own defense. Attorney Mark Sobel told the court he had "significant concerns regarding competency" about his client, prompting the evaluation before the case moves forward.
Ebert pushed back on that assessment in court, saying he was "perfectly competent." He also disputed the case against him outright, stating that "every part of the police report is a lie."
Beyond rejecting the evaluation, Ebert said he believed his attorney was working alongside prosecutors. He further suggested that the lawyer who previously represented him may have accepted a bribe.
No date has been made public for the evaluation or for the resumption of proceedings. Ebert played in Turnstile before the Baltimore hardcore band's current lineup took shape.
