Dexter and The Moonrocks announce new album 'Friends That I Don't Like'

Dexter and The Moonrocks have laid out the details of their new full-length record. Titled 'Friends That I Don't Like', it lands on October 2 through Severance Records and Big Loud Rock, following the band's 2025 EP 'Donkey Flats'.

The album collects previously released singles '12 Steps', 'If You Could Talk' and the viral breakout 'Freakin' Out', alongside the newly issued 'It's A Lot'. The latest track leans on a riff built to stick, and once again shows the group moving freely between country, grunge, alt rock and southern rock without settling into any one lane.

Drummer Ryan Fox said the four-piece has long been hard to categorise, noting that coming up in the Texas music scene brought expectations they never had much interest in meeting. He described the record as the point where the band stopped listening to outside pressure and simply embraced being blue-collar rockers from a small town, calling it both a tribute to their upbringing and a nod to everything they wanted to change about it.

Guitarist Ryan Anderson addressed 'It's A Lot', explaining the song can mean whatever a listener needs it to mean. For him, it reflects the past year: the work of making the most of a life-changing moment, and the fresh set of challenges that came with it. He added that the band is grateful for where it has landed, even when the pace becomes overwhelming.

Summing up the genre debate around the group, Fox offered a blunt verdict: "Honestly, who cares." The band, he insisted, is not going anywhere.
