claire rousay and zander raymond announce joint album something good
The collaborative record arrives January 29 via Thrill Jockey, led by the single "can't we have both".
claire rousay and zander raymond have announced something good, a full-length collaboration due January 29 through Thrill Jockey. The lead single, "can't we have both", is already streaming. The label had quietly previewed the project to newsletter subscribers before making the announcement official.
The album moves between abstract sound exploration and pop structure, a balance the first single makes plain. "can't we have both" is shimmering and largely shapeless until rousay anchors it with a return to lead vocals. Her lyrics push the track toward a heavier emotional register, touching on professional burnout and a sense of displacement before landing on the line "I don't know if I belong here anymore".
Both artists share an interest in found sound and in drone work with a mournful edge. rousay built her reputation within the so-called "emo ambient" lane, where ambient composition meets confessional songwriting, while raymond works across disciplines and released no one notices the fly last year.
The record lands during an especially busy stretch for rousay, who put out the EP on holding last week and, shortly before that, an album made with Martyna Basta.
something good collects nine tracks, including "free monday", "blue shirt always", "colors and feelings" and "major freedom". Pre-orders are open through Thrill Jockey.
