Citizen drop "Good Fortune" days before Halcyon Blues arrives
The album's opening track lands alongside a three-song promo from emo/post-hardcore act California Cousins and a new single from shoegazers Last Days of Heaven.
Citizen have shared "Good Fortune," the opening track from their new album Halcyon Blues. The record is due out this week, making the song a final preview of the full release, with the band coming out swinging from the very first cut.
The same batch of new music included other names of interest to the alternative crowd. Rochester, New York emo and post-hardcore band California Cousins released a three-song promo, a strong hint that a new LP could be in the works, though no details have been announced yet.
Dallas outfit Last Days of Heaven put out "Blushing 1" via New Morality Zine, sticking to the shoegaze-leaning alt-rock the group has built its sound around.
Another return of note came from Now It's Overhead, who unveiled "eleven-seven-thirty-five," their first new music in 20 years. The song comes from an EP arriving in September through Saddle Creek. Elsewhere, WHY? announced their ninth album, Oh Golly / Yes Lord, set for October 30 via Waterlines and led by the loose, lightly psychedelic indie rock single "In Spirit."
Outside the alternative lane, New Radicals resurfaced with "One Night Only (Break Loose Break Free!)," their first new song in 28 years, recorded for the film One Night Only. The rest of the day's releases came from Carolina Oliveros, Lucy Dacus, John Moreland with Lydia Loveless, James Ellis Ford, No Bra and Bonobo featuring Joy Crookes.
