Chastity announces new album I Built This Prison Myself, shares "Misled Youth"

Chastity, the project of Whitby, Ontario musician Brandon Williams, has announced a new album titled I Built This Prison Myself, due November 13 through Deathwish, Inc. It follows the self-titled record Williams released in 2024, and arrives with lead single "Misled Youth."

The album is built around a specific piece of local history. In 1976, a 16-year-old patient at Whitby Psychiatric Hospital set fire to a massive barn standing on the hospital grounds. As a symbolic act of defiance against total institutional control, it's hard to top. The setting resonates with Williams' own story, too: he cut his teeth booking DIY punk shows in a barn in the same town.

Chastity's music has always resisted a tidy label. Williams writes songs that are direct and unadorned but sit somewhere between heavy emo, heart-on-sleeve shoegaze and power pop buried in fuzz and anguish, closer to a meeting point between Jesu and the Promise Ring than to any single scene. "Misled Youth" fits that description, a fuzz-pedal stomper delivered in a hopeless yelp.

The ten-song tracklist runs "Blink And See God," "Don't Lose The Feeling," "Jesus Christ Superstore," "Misled Youth," "Error Of My Ways," "Fighting," "So Alive I Cry," "No One," "Seeing Red" and "Making Peace With The Horrors Of Being Me." Pre-orders are open now.
