Bloc Party share "Pigwig" from Trevor Horn-produced concept album

Bloc Party have released "Pigwig," the latest track lifted from Anatomy Of A Brief Romance, the band's new album scheduled for September 11 via cOnTAGIOUS LTD/Virgin. The song comes with a video directed by Laura Perrett.

The record is a concept album built around the arc of a chaotic rebound relationship. It was produced by veteran pop producer Trevor Horn, and the group had already previewed it with the singles "Coming On Strong" and "Love Bombs."

Musically, "Pigwig" is restless and propulsive, and it deals with the moment love lands whether you want it to or not. In a press statement, frontman Kele Okereke explained that the title comes from a real pet name used during that relationship, borrowed from a Beatrix Potter character, the partner of Pigling Bland. He described it as an inside joke that carried real meaning for the couple at the time.

Okereke also called the track one of the sweetest on the album, saying it revisits the memory of a romantic seaside trip during what he considers the high point of the relationship. The lyrics balance that tenderness with sharper details about the person in question, including a fixation on podcasts about success.

The band teased the song on social media the day before its release, and reactions started rolling in before the full track was even available. Part of the online conversation circled back to Silent Alarm, the debut that remains the band's defining reference point, and to how far Bloc Party's current material sits from that early anxiety.
