Billie Joe, Tim Armstrong And Travis Barker Debut Supergroup At Ramones Tribute

Called Cretin Family, the band also includes CJ Ramone and was introduced by John Travolta at a 50th anniversary celebration at Hollywood Forever Cemetery

A brand-new punk supergroup played its first show Sunday night at a Hollywood Forever Cemetery event marking the Ramones' 50th anniversary. The band, Cretin Family, brings together Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, Tim Armstrong of Rancid, blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and former Ramones bassist CJ Ramone. The two Armstrongs are not related.

John Travolta handled the introduction, hosting the night alongside Linda Ramone, widow of guitarist Johnny Ramone, who is buried at the cemetery. Billy Idol brought Travolta out to the stage.

The evening paired live music with film. The program included a double feature of Carrie, Brian De Palma's 1976 movie in which Travolta played one of the high school bullies, and Propeller One-Way Night Coach, the recent feature Travolta wrote and directed based on his own 1997 children's novel.

Cretin Family's set was built entirely around Ramones covers, with guest appearances from Billy Idol, the Linda Lindas and Fred Armisen, who recently launched his own Ramones tribute band with Sleater-Kinney's Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker.

Fan-shot footage from the performance has been making the rounds online. No further dates or original material from the supergroup have been announced so far.
