Beth Seymour & The Lizzies share new single "My Mother's Face"
The Naarm/Melbourne artist's first release of 2026 opens quietly before erupting into full punk fury in under three minutes
Beth Seymour has returned with "My Mother's Face", her first single of 2026, recorded with her backing band The Lizzies. The Naarm/Melbourne musician, billed as a transgender princess and punk rock's answer to Paris Hilton, uses the track to confront ghosts from her own past.
Musically, the song is built on contrast. It begins soft and reflective before tipping into a blast of punk aggression, with the whole thing wrapped up in less than three minutes. The arrangement mirrors the conflicted emotions at the centre of the lyric, which closes with Seymour claiming ownership of herself: "this is my body, this is my face".
The subject matter is drawn directly from her own experience. Seymour has explained that transitioning often comes with the fantasy that hormone replacement will deliver a supermodel face, when in practice people tend to start resembling their mother or sister instead.
She has not seen her mother since coming out as trans, which made that resemblance difficult to process. "It brought up all the complicated emotions and history that comes with seeing her in myself," she said. "My Mother's Face" is out now.
