Andrew W.K. drops surprise jazz album Temptation To Exist
The musician's first release since 2021's God Is Partying arrived with no warning and trades party rock for cinematic full-band instrumentals.
Andrew W.K. is back with new music. After roughly five years of silence, the musician has surprise-released Temptation To Exist, his first album since 2021's God Is Partying.
The record finds him returning to jazz, a genre he previously explored on 55 Cadillac, his 2009 solo piano release. This time the approach is bigger: a set of lush, cinematic instrumentals performed by a full band, far removed from the party anthems that made his name.
The rollout was unusual. Tracks began surfacing Thursday night on AWKSHARE, a platform that appears to be fan-run, and the album can now be streamed in full on YouTube Music. It has yet to appear on most other digital services.
The announcement came through an equally unconventional channel. The @AndrewWK Instagram account, which also seems to be operated by fans at this point, revealed the title, and actress Kat Dennings shared the news on her Instagram stories.
Dennings, who married Andrew W.K. in 2023, got engaged to him in 2021, shortly before God Is Partying arrived. He has been largely absent from release schedules since then, making Temptation To Exist both a comeback and an unexpected stylistic detour in his catalog.
