My Chemical Romance have scored their first ever UK Number One album, and it took two decades to happen. The Black Parade, originally released in 2006, has climbed to the top of the UK Album Chart 20 years on from its arrival.

The record never reached the summit during its original run, despite becoming one of the defining rock albums of the 2000s and a cornerstone release for a generation of emo and pop punk listeners. The album cemented the band's line-up of Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Ray Toro and Frank Iero in the wider rock consciousness.

The chart-topping run arrives alongside the album's 20th anniversary reissue, which put the title back into circulation and reignited demand among UK listeners.

The milestone underlines just how durable the record has proven to be, continuing to pick up new audiences long after its original release. For My Chemical Romance, it closes a long-standing gap in their chart history: enormous cultural reach, but never a UK Number One album until now.
