Spike & The Gimme Gimmes drop "Shit The Bed" ahead of "Merry Shitmas!" US tour
The eleven-track covers record is out now on Fat Wreck Chords, available digitally and on CD and 'brown swirl' vinyl
Spike & The Gimme Gimmes have released Shit The Bed, their new full-length, via Fat Wreck Chords. The record is available across streaming platforms as well as on CD and 'brown swirl' vinyl, continuing the band's long-running habit of running other people's hits through a punk rock blender.
The album collects eleven covers, among them "It's Raining Men", "Rhinestone Cowboy", "Hey Ya!", "I Want It That Way", "Rio", "Kokomo", "Fame", "Think I'm In Love", "I'll Make Love To You" and "We Are The World". The track list jumps between disco, country, eighties pop and R&B ballads.
The band is currently working its way through Europe. After that comes the "Merry Shitmas!" run across the United States, with Riverboat Gamblers handling main support. The Cineramas, Build Us Airplanes, Top Secret Robot Alliance and Fan Club are set to appear on select dates.
The touring lineup is stacked with familiar faces. Spike Slawson remains on lead vocals, joined by CJ Ramone (Ramones), Dez Cadena (Black Flag / The Misfits), David Hidalgo Jr. (Social Distortion) and Jake Kiley (Strung Out).
Since forming in the 1990s, the group has built an entire catalogue out of covers, releasing themed albums dedicated to show tunes, country, soul and radio staples. Shit The Bed keeps that run going on Fat Wreck Chords, with the holiday shows serving as the album's first proper push in the States.
