My Chemical Romance confirm new album for 2027 and 'probably' no shows
Gerard Way laid out the band's plans from the Hollywood Bowl stage, the same night MCR debuted a 'Danger Days' B-side and reunited with Bert McCracken.
My Chemical Romance plan to spend 2027 making a record. Speaking from the stage at the Hollywood Bowl on Oct. 30, Gerard Way told the crowd the band intends to write and record a follow-up next year, and that as a result they will "probably" play no shows during that stretch. The announcement came right after the band finished "DESTROYA" in the second half of the set.
Way said he wanted to clear the air rather than let vague messaging fuel speculation, joking that the group might turn up under a different name if they got too rusty. He pointed fans toward 2028 for a return to the stage. The record would be MCR's first since 2010's 'Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys'.
The night also delivered two firsts. The band gave the live debut to "We Don't Need Another Song About California", a 'Danger Days' B-side that Way said grew out of an early riff from guitarist Frank Iero. The encore opened with "You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison" alongside The Used vocalist Bert McCracken, who sang on the studio version and had not shared a stage with MCR since 2005. Earlier that same evening, Way had joined The Used for "Buried Myself Alive".
The album confirmation follows 'Prelude to The End', an animated short the band released in collaboration with artist Lauren Tsai, featuring voice work from Phoebe Bridgers, Billie Eilish and Hideo Kojima. The film set off a wave of fan theories, including one that MCR were about to break up again — a reading Way's comments now rule out.
