Mark Hoppus says blink-182 signed a new record deal and is itching for the studio
Speaking to Guitar World, the bassist discussed his new instrument and revealed the band is already talking about future tour dates and fresh material.
Mark Hoppus has confirmed that blink-182 are working under a new record deal and that the three members have begun mapping out their next move. The bassist shared the update in an interview with Guitar World, where he also broke down his recent switch in gear.
According to Hoppus, the band is discussing dates for upcoming tours and everyone is eager to get back into the studio. He said he has material he wants to play for Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker, noted that the drummer has ideas of his own, and mentioned that DeLonge is getting his studio running again ahead of the sessions.
Hoppus was clear about not wanting to coast on the band's legacy. He said that if blink-182 are on the road, he wants the setlists to include new songs rather than leaning on what the group accomplished in the late '90s with Enema of the State.
On the gear side, Hoppus explained that the Jaguar body strikes him as a more punk rock shape than either a Precision or a Jazz Bass, singling out its angles. He added that once he started playing Jag basses, he noticed stronger midrange cut, the quality he's always chasing within the band's sound.
No album title, release window or tour routing has been announced. For now, the comments simply signal that both a record and live plans are back on the table.
