Deftones close Outbreak's All Points East takeover with 90-minute London headline set

Outbreak took over one day of All Points East at London's Victoria Park, building a bill that mixed returning favourites with newer acts and handed the headline slot to Deftones. Weeks of drought left the park dusty, sending much of the crowd hunting for shade between stages.

Basement marked their return to the capital after a long hiatus, leaning into a spacious, melodic modern grunge sound rather than the emo they came up on. Deafheaven brought cosmic heaviness and George Clarke's growls, while Mannequin Pussy tore through 'I Don't Know You' and 'Control' with riot grrrl distortion. Recluse, Clarion and Ecca Vandal filled out the earlier slots, with Clarion and Vandal making the most of the arching X Stage.

AFI played the West field with a hits-heavy set built around newer material, opening with 'Girl's Not Grey' before 'Love Like Winter' sent Davey Havok into a solo dance-off. 'Holy Vision' showed where the band sits now, and 'Beautiful Thieves' covered the anthems. Amyl And The Sniffers proved they can hold a full field, running from 'Do It Do It' into 'U Should Not Be Doing That'. "You know it's gonna be a good set when I've already lost one of my eyelashes," laughed Amy Taylor.

IDLES opened with 'Levitator' and pulled out 'Never Fight A Man With A Perm', with Joe Talbot working the crowd as the sun went down. For plenty of ticket holders, they were the day's real draw.

Deftones closed with roughly ninety minutes, starting with 'Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away)' and moving through 'Around The Fur', 'My Mind Is A Mountain', 'Feiticeira' and 'Mascara'. Newer track 'Rocket Skates' sat alongside 'Change (In The House Of Flies)' and 'My Own Summer (Shove It)'. Chino Moreno said little beyond an "Alright! Let's boogie!" half an hour in.
