Andrew McMahon brought his voice-and-piano solo show to the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, playing for close to two hours and pulling from every chapter of his career, including Something Corporate, Jack's Mannequin and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness.

Ivory Layne opened the night with a roughly 25-minute set of quirky, theatrical piano pop built around a narrative about falling in and out of love. She returned later in the evening to add backing vocals to "Restless Dream", "High Dive" and the unreleased "Change", with the duet portion closing on "Dark Blue".

McMahon took the stage before 7 p.m. to stay within the venue's 9 p.m. curfew, as the club had a separate late show booked. He opened with the Something Corporate staple "I Want To Save You", whose opening lines name-check New Found Glory and landed differently following the death of Chad Gilbert. The set also included "Bruised", "Fire Escape", "Maps for the Getaway" and "I Woke Up In A Car".

Between songs, McMahon spoke about surviving leukemia and his frustration with journalists who wanted only his cancer story rather than his songwriting. He also recounted a night at a cowboy bar that ended with him climbing into a stranger's car thinking it was his Uber, a story that set up "Stars", from Tilt at the Wind No More, written as an apology to his wife.

After admitting he still has anxiety dreams about returning for an encore to an empty room, McMahon came back for "Globes & Map" and closed with his biggest hit, "Cecilia and the Satellite". The tour continues with additional dates.
